I've obviously been at the back not paying attention, but why is there a LV cup being run now? I thought the LV was to select the challenger for the America's cup and happened immediately before the AC itself. Since Oracle, a challenger, just beat Alinghi, why is there an LV challenge immediately afterwards?

AC & F1 deserve each other,Watching paint dry is more exciting

The Louis Vuitton Trophy is not linked to the Americas Cup any more.

Louis Vuitton pulled out of sponsoring the Americas Cup challenger series just after Alinghi won the Cup in 2007

'In July 2007, Louis Vuitton announced termination of all its sponsorship activities associated with the America's Cup after 25 years of involvement, arguing the organisation of the America's Cup was taken over by business under the rule of Ernesto Bertarelli, leader of Alinghi, winner in 2003.[2] Louis Vuitton instead sponsored the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series and Louis Vuitton Trophy.' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Vuitton_Cup#2004_to_2010

The Louis Vuitton Trophy is supported by Louis Vuitton and the World Sailing Team Association, a grouping of eight America's Cup syndicates and they have used the 2007 AC boats.

Exactly, and the quality of the racing should serve as a timely reminder to Oracle of what top level America's cup racing should look like as they plan the next cup.
