Just got back to Hamble from Lymington and find I have lost the whole ensign, staff and deck socket.
Had couple big fenders swinging on the stern and I guess they have worked the socket loose.

Bottle of their favorite to anyone that finds it.

Thanks

That's quite an achievement to lose the socket as well, congratulations. My own ensigns have lasted until they worn to threads and become an embarrassment, but I know two sailors who have lost theirs. In one case, the ensign had been left up overnight in St Peter Port in the inner harbour and it blew up overnight, which I remember as being a restless night. In the morning the ensign and staff had gone. Although it is shallow there, he was unable to dredge it up. My other friend was with us. In the other case we were in Breskens with a friend with a 46' Island Packet. There was a harbour festival going on and in the small hours my friend heard something on his boat and poked his head up. He saw a couple of revellers and must have startled them because he also heard a splash, which was his expensive s/s ensign staff and blue CA ensign going overboard.
