...........well, in Shepperton Lock actually !
Wot a weekend for after dinner stories.......
Arrived at Shepperton Lock on Saturday morning heading downstream and waited for upstream boats to clear. Still one narrow boat in lock when lockie beckons me in !! Strange I thought, maybe engine probs or summink? Anyway, transpires that said NB has got 'lost' and wanted River Wey which entrance downstream of lock. Had v good laugh and made some comment like- 'See, told you GPS was worth having on Thames' As we left lock NB skipper asked ' This is River Trent isnt it?

Later same day in Sunbury Lock heading back up stream last boat in was rather lacking in control flybridge binliner with vaguely familiar name and wheel spinning novice saying 'how do i stop bumping into things ?' Against better judgement muttered something vaguely polite like 'bloody slow down and take your time and stop using wheel like panic antidote....etc' Reply was 'Only just got this today and come up from Thurrock............' Well Syd, at least you now know they made the non tidal Thames in one piece...../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Must be a Master Mariner, they can find their way from A to B but need a Pilot in port.
BTW. Did you really see Syd on the non-tidal Thames? Maybe he's on his way up to stay with me for a few days.

I think what Tony is getting at is he saw the fella (Mark) who bought my boat. He showed upSaturday morning with two "experienced" crew, because I wouldn't let him take it otherwise, thats why its sat on my mooring for so long. Anyway, myself and the two sailing type fellows went for a spin before their trip so they (rather, I) could see how they got on with the handling and knowledge of the river. I must admit they were very competent and obviously experienced. BUT, by the sounds of it, by the time they reached Tony Mark had taken over the controls.
I did my best!

Syd

err....umm..... when I saw them there were two young kids and another older guy but not sure I recognised anyone that would warrant being called 'experienced'. Maybe they'd jumped ship by then....?
