I bought my looseleaf almanac at the show, because the chap who sold it to me said the three ring type binders were easily available, 'oh yes, just pop in to your nearest Staples'. This turns out not to be true, they are an amercan standard not generally available anywhere in the UK as far as I can find, even the nice lady who sources stuff for our office has had a go.

It strikes me the chap at the show (from the well known book supplier) was telling porkies either deliberately or out of ignorance of his product just to get a sale, which is a reflection on just about every trader I came accross at the show. I wouldn't have bought this product if I had known I couldn't reduce it to the elements I really want for my location.

Just a mild moan really, but why can't these suppliers just be straight with the purchaser? It leads to a considerable degree of mistrust. I won't go back there again.

Even worse....

I've used the looseleaf version for several years, keeping it in the nice blue special 3-ring folder originally supplied by the nice Reeds people. This year, I once again bought a looseleaf refill and guess what? Yes, they've changed the hole-punch spacing, so it won't fit in the original loose-leaf binders! You now have to buy a new binder to be able to use the current "refill". Needless to say, I got a full refund from the chandlery.

Thats a bit of a pain I bought the looseleaf version specifically so I could buy a smaller binder to only carry the bits I need for specific trips...weight is everything on deliveries because you invariably end up carrying all your gear around with you...guess I'll have to rethink!!

Alternative solution...

If you only want to take a few relevant pages with you, why not simply punch them yourself with a 4-hole punch and use an ordinary binder?

Re: Alternative solution...

Bro In Law bought us the single volume version for Christmas and I'm not to vexed as I might have been. Problem is its a sod to get onto the scanner to extract chartlets, tide tables and tide curves in the way I used to do and I'm loathe to pull it apart or, shudder, give up 10 beers for a looseleaf copy.

Re: Best cost almanac supplier?

There is such a variety of prices about for almanacs. Can anyone tell me the address of the cheapest mail order looseleaf supplier?

PS. I found a suitable binder by scouting around - now all I need is a low cost refill.

Thanks,

PWG
