Hello - I have a 1986 Bristol 35.5, currently out of the water, and have just removed the packing box hose and have bought a 5-ply marine exhaust replacement hose . The I.D. of the new hose, as the old hose is 1 3/4" matching the O.D. of the sterntube. The problem, if in fact there is one, is that the new hose slips onto the sterntube by hand with minimal resistance, which leads me to believe that the diameter of the sterntube needs to be "built up". The way I see it, I have three alternatives.
1) Assume it's OK, and slip on hose and clamps, and job done.
2) Apply 3M 5200 or other bonding/sealant to sterntube first and then slip on hose, clamps and job done.
3) Assume sterntube needs to be "built up" with epoxy/fiberglass cloth. Do this, and then slip on hose and clamps.
Can anyone enlighten me as to how to proceed on this project? Any advise/recommendations/insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
