Loose footed or bolt rope sail?

I got a short sail from Menai to Bangor today, with my new battoned loose foot sail from crusader sails. I was surprised how fast I was going In light winds and even towing a dinghy compared to the old sail.

First test but needed tweaking for max benefits.

Seems odd that bolt rope systems ever came about, if loose footed is simpler and works as well or better (which seems to be the case).
