Loose-footed main and \'lazy bag\'

We aged pair have been spoilt for control when dropping or reefing the bolt-roped main. Now, due to crossed wired communication with the sailmaker, he has made a loose-footed main (which is really beautifully shaped) but it seems my 'lazy bag' is going to go by the board, and I will be back to just lazy jacks which used to allow the sail and lines to go all over the place when dropping or reefing.

Question: has anyone knowledge of a lazy-bag system which will work with loose-footed main? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Why can you not use the lazy bag with a loose-footed main? Puzzled...

All you need to do is to get the lazy bag modified by fitting a bolt rope to the postion of where it slots into the boom. We have just such an arrangement made by Quay Sails.

Had one on the previous boat. Lazy bag had a bolt rope sewn into the bottom and sat on top of boom. Had to remember to slide the main's clew in boom first then lazy bag bolt rope. It was all a bit of a pig to assemble but it worked fine.

Do you even need to sew it in? Just fold the tape over a suitable length of line and pull it along the groove.

Me too - in fact it only went on last week. Bolt rope in stack pack and loose foot to main, works a treat.

Yes, I have a loose-footed main with a stackpack. Because of my odd wing mast rig, the tack can move a foot either side of the centre line of the boom so a conventional bag attached to the boom is no use. Mine is sewn to the foot of the sail and works fine.

p.s. I'd never have anything but a loose-footed main regardless of rig.

Yours and the other posts reassure me. In my case, the LFM is cut in such a way that the foot dips down below the clew and tack fixings, ie overlapping the boom itself. I was a bit unsure how this would be, if doubled back to get on the inside of the lazy bag. Obviously, it will be straightforward. I had already sussed that we needed a boltrope put down the middle of the lazy bag. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Incidentally, it seems that LFM people swear very strongly by them. Mine was a mistake, but I have decided it was serendipity. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
