I put a watch on Fleabay on a couple of 25ft boats.. SWMBO's seen one of them and instead of saying the expected "what the chuff do you think you're up to, we've only just bought the last boat!!!".. I get, "nice boat, let's buy it" It's a Regal Commodore 242

I've become quite attached to our little Fletcher.. what to do, what to do:confused:

Quick before she changes her mind.........you know they can do that :):)

The size steps you are thinking of taking are very normal, the bigger boat will give you more accomodation options etc. but it could mean mooring/dry storage, which was one of your previous thoughts anyway.

Go and check them out, its one of the best parts.

I would be very concerned.

What is the payback going to be? I fear you may be in for a little DIY this winter. I would resist the urge and stick to your fletcher, your "favour account" has already been settled on that one.

Beware Greeks bearing gifts. :D

I have a cunning plan to overcome that quandary TK.. buy a boat way over budget (one with patio doors), then there'll be bugger all money left to do DIY... sorted:D

I doubt you get much more cockpit space, but you do get facilities to overnight on her. If you plan to do that then definitely go for it if funds allow. If not, it may be better to stick with the Fletcher. It's also a big boat to trailer, so i'd say only go for it if you plan on using a marina/mooring buoy/dry stack/launch and store. Do you do a lot of watersports with the Fletcher? Perfectly feasible with a 24' cruiser, but better with a Fletcher.

we have all the gear to do a bit of doughnutting and waterskiiing, since our first boat in 2008 (the Binliner Bowrider) we've yet to use them,

We're coming to the conclusion that speed is for gettng us from A to B for whatever it is that we enjoy doing when we get there (beach, swimming, lunch on the water etc)... we like the overall experience and are not owning a boat purely for watersports.

Current setup is launch and store and a 24ft boat adds very little to the current annual storage cost and I should be able to reuse the trailer I have if a new boat doesn't come with one. Looking at spending £20K ish which'll not be a problem.

OB1 Kenobi / Wiggo.. I'll give you a buzz for some more of that wise advice if I may :) ... will be interesting to have your opinion on the maintainability of a 5L efi lump over the 3L in line 4 that I now know very well.

All that said, I reckon we'll keep hold of the Fletcher until an absolute 'can't refuse' deal comes along..

Going to be another bout of research to find our next boat that's wrong for us:D changing boats every 6 months or so at the moment:eek:

Will be the usual questions... Petrol v Diesel, 4 berth v 2 Berth, Quality v Quantity etc as said by Andie, I'm looking forward to the search and will ensure SWMBO gets involved.

Looks like Deb is 100% serious aboiut the change after another chat today:cool:

Move up if you can it is a different world. Go for as big as you can afford. If you are on the southcoast petrol is no problem on the water. I run a 27 foot single petrol and I think that is the limit for petrol next boat will be diesel.

If berthing is an issue Bristol channel alot cheaper but you trade the blue stuff for brown stuff.

Keep us all updated on your decision

I think she's trying to get you beyond trailorable length:D

the Norman Stanley is still OK, been twice today

nice one mate, thanks for keeping an eye on her. should be down next weekend and during the following week, got a week off from the rat race to play a little:cool:

Had a good chat with Deb tonight and I think it's safe to delete the words "or will we" from the title of this thread:) happy hunting time for a new boat begins in earnest from tonight.

Anyone want to buy a well maintained Fletcher 19GTS ? lol ;)

Had a look at a boat today, a Rinker 242 Fiesta Vee yr 2000 with a 5.0L 260hp engine, trim tabs and extended swim platform.. also came complete with trailer. if we can find a decent example, we might go for something like this, it looked enormous compared to the Flecther:eek:..

walked away from this particular one as there were a row of star shaped cracks along the top of the bow where I presume part of the super structure / beam runs so may have some stress fractures going on in there somewhere, couldn't find a CE plate (there was a US Yacht Certification plate though), didn't have paperwork with him, no chance of a sea trial or running of the engine on muffs (still winterised) and couldn't confirm it had a declaration of conformity cert issued.. swore blind it was ok when purchased from North Wales 'somewhere' and was going to use it on the Thames, also said all paperwork was at home (all photocopies). would have been interesting to see if a BSS was with the boat docs (think not)

very tempting before seeing her as it was going for £17K which is well below market value hence showing it some interest even though it had a petrol engine, a diesel equivalent without trailer tend to be advertised in the mid to hgh 20's so lots of petrol could be bought with the difference....

I'll keep looking but was a worthwhile trip just to get a feel for a boat of this size.. those 5.0l v8's are big beasties:eek:

Glad you walked. A berth neighbour brought a new Glastron 249 about two years ago direct from the states. He had a devil of a job getting it certificated for Europe and when it turned out he had to have the engine changed or maybe major modifications done, he gave up and sold it for a song.

18 months sat on the pontoon and never (allegedly) went anywhere with it.

A sad tale, newly married couple too.
