I'm seriously considering selling my ex-Thames Water Patrol Launch. Bless her she was used about 4 times this year and never once went through a Lock. She's getting no TLC just laying forlornly at her mooring unloved and unwashed.

That's cool Chris, thanks! I only have one shot somewhere. As regards price, I guess around £25-£29,000. I have to make it quite clear there have been several murmurings of interest from various quarters.

I don't mean this rudely or disrespectfully, but that seems a lot of money compared to what you'd get in a sailing boat for the money... To a layman, what is it that justifies the price? Is it a historical boat, or a particularly big engine or something?

Essentially it is a Collectors item. Rare as Hens Teeth and with as much style and panache you will ever find. If you want a bit of class then this is it. There is an earlier wood one for sale at £39k which is I believe nicer than mine if you don't mind keeping on top of woodwork.

Quality and thoughtfulness too. Everything about them is so well thought out. One can even remove a rope from a Prop whilst sitting inside the boat. The Tow Bar is located in the absolute ideal place. Everything screams professionalism.

I suspect also the value will always be very Thames specific especially to Thames based boaters as being an ex Patrol launch it will always be mistaken for the real thing, that style of Patrol launch has been in use for nearly fifty years so it is a Thames classic and much admired. As you suggest it would struggle to sell anywhere else for that sort of money where nobody knew what it was.
Most of them are still in use by the EA so a privately owned one is very rare.

Very nice too although the internal cockpit, controls etc. are radically different from the basic simplicity of mine. I would suggest that one of these would be a better buy than mine.

Selling Ashmount could be on the cards too. It's a lot for just the two of us to manage and downsizing may be an option. This recent car accident of mine made me realise just how vulnerable I am.

Sorry to hear that Byron, wasn't aware re car accident. We , too, are heading down the downsizing route which is proving to be something of a nightmare after over 25 years in the same house.
