Hello dear members,

I am looking to rent a 38-42' catamaran for my family (we have 2 boys) from Jan to March 2019 anywhere in the caribbean.
We know well Cienfuegos (Cuba) but are ready to start from anywhere in the Caribbean. BVI, French antilles, ....
I understand a one way option could be difficult to get so we are prepared to drop it where we took it.
I have tried the basic websites but either they show no availability for such a duration or the prices are way to high.... (40 k€ - 110 k€ !!)
Would you have some recommendations or emails I could contact ?

Thanks a lot in advance and safe sailing to all ;)

Not a chance. Not only is a term that long not commonly available in peak periods (and as you say would be hugely expensive), but following last year's hurricanes there is a huge shortage of such boats as the factories cannot work fast enough to replace the lost charter boats.

In more normal times you might be lucky and find a charter company that had an underused boat, for example one awaiting retirement that might be prepared to do do a deal, but these are not normal times.

At that charter cost it is probably worth buying one then selling it when you've finished with it. If you price it to sell quickly you might make a loss, but hopefully not as much as €110K. Then again if you can bring it to the Carribean from somewhere cheaper then maybe you wouldn't have to sell it at a loss.

You could consider a different charter area, where they have not had storm damage - Thailand comes to mind, Seychelles, Pacific Islands (Tahiti?). But I cannot think costs will be significantly lower.

The idea of buying a decent second hand catamaran and delivering it to the Caribbean with a view to selling it there sounds the most appealing. So maybe looking at listings in locations within 'your' striking distance of the Caribbean and then explore what sort of price you might achieve in a sellers market would be an interesting option.

Finally look at a straight forward delivery trip of a new catamaran.
