Wondering if anyone happens to have a link to the Service procedure for the bellows replacement on Volvo's 290 DP outdrive. I am looking to replace both exhaust & universal joint bellows. Also looking for any advice from those with experience of doing this and to understand how many specialist tools/jigs are required.

I tried searching for Volvo links without success so any advice or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!

No special tools req'd, just a good set of metric allen keys. the exhaust bellow can be replaced by just tilting the drive up to gain access.
The drive bellows is as follows, tilt drive fully down.
Drain oil, remove the rear cover and disconnect the gear shift at the upper quadrant, remove the two hex bolts in the round spigot on the steering helmet, use the long screw from the cover in one of the two small holes to each side in the spigot to wind it out, and swing helmet up out of the way.
Remove the two 14mm nuts, one each side of the upper housing, and the two upside down hex bolts inside at the rear above the gear shift quadrant.
Loosen the two bellows hose clips, and prise up the upper housing until the vertical shaft in side clears the lower section, twist the housing 90 degrees and withdraw from the bellows.
(Make sure that you don't lose any shims that sit under the large bearing in the upper section, sometimes they stick to the bearing, place them in the recess in the mid section for safety.
Sometimes the break couplin follows the upper shaft as you lift it, just shove it back down with a screwdriver so it sits on the lower vertical shaft in the mid section.)
Now you can replace the bellows, we always replace the two 'O' rings between upper and mid section too, and rebuild in reverse, note the bellows is marked TOP at the the rear. And refill with approx 2.7 liters of oil, with new 'O' rings on the drain/top plugs.
Hope this makes sense, we always do it this way as it saves so much time.

Err, phone Steve at dell quay and ask him to service legs. I've always found it very simple /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Steve,

Once again many thanks for this reply along with the many that have preceded it, you're a gentleman!

Regards, Dave

PS: KevB- with the boat in Dublin, using Steve at Dell Quay might not be practical. However getting someone to do it is a much easier option but not as much fun /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Freebee, many thanks - a perfect visual complement to Steve's (Spannerman) instructions. Cheers /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
