My steering linkages are joined to the rudders using 4 (2 per rudder) ball jointy things similar to these:

Unfortunately, whilst they do the job just fine, the ones I have fitted have a small amount of play in them, which when 4 of them are being used, can lead the rudders to cause a knocking sound when there's some swell, which goes straight into our cabin. It's a pain!

I've been looking for something similar to the above image, which would hopefully not have any play in them, but I'm struggling to find the right size/type in 316 SS. The socket side of things (horizontal) needs to have a 10mm female thread, and the ball side (vertical) needs to have a 10mm male thread.

I've also been eyeing up ones like these:

This is what we have on the end of the hydraulic ram, and would be fine if we can get a bolt that will fit snugly in the hole.

The previous steering system used a mix of the two above, with a socket similar to the second one, but with a ball inside it like the first image. That had no play in it. That would be perfect, but I haven't been able to find anything like that?

These items would all be outside on the stern and would get wet, so need to be 316 stainless.

Any thoughts? I'm happy to pay someone to make them, if that's what it takes, as long as it's not silly money!

have you thought of an automotive steering part, or a part off any other steerable plant, ie fork lift trucks, dumpers etc.?

Have a search for Rose Joints or Ball Joints;

E.g. Stanless M8 from Germany: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Winkelgel...delstahl-VA-V2A-NiRo-Neu-M8-M-8-/221305059678

and seal it with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealing-B...le-Rose-Joint-Rod-End-Dust-Boot-/380934005810

Be aware that a lot of them that have stainless in the description have stainless balls not stainless bodies
