Currently planning our first major passage, hence looking for Pilot Charts etc. Brittany - Azores. There seems to be a vast amount of reading and planning matter on the subject and area, so can anyone recommend anything specific?

I haven't seen anywhere selling pilot charts?

Thanks

The ROC Pilot are worth every penny and show lots of anchorages so you will save every penny many times over.

You can buy on Amazon.

Imray sell routing charts for the N Atlantic, but you don't really need them. The Atlantic Islands cruising guide by Anne Hammick will give you all you need and also references admiralty charts. Camaret to sao Miguel should take about 12/14 days, but it can be a tough trip, worth it though.

Searched Amazon for ROC Pilot but no results - do you have a URL?

Many Thanks

Sorry my North Atlantic Pilot Atlas is buried in my loft! I know it came from Kelvin Hughes in Southampton.

I hope the Anne Hammick pilots have improved. My copy of her Atlantic Islands features lots of photographs taken from the shore looking out to sea. Utterly useless for boat navigation, though useful for advance reconnaissance by hire car.

From her description of the approaches to Santa Cruz de Tenerife it is obvious that she hasn't done it at night. Otherwise she would have spotted that the Cortes Ingles department store and a memorial make nearly perfect leading marks.
