My fridge has started playing up in the boat its a Waeco Coolmatic. the LED lights say all is ok but the main compartment on cools to 16 deg C while the icebox still produces ice ??

Anyone know of a good Refrigeration Engineer in the Penton Hook area, it may just need the gas topping up. Dometic the support company gave me the number of a guy in Suffolk who said Chertsey was a long way out of his area and couldn't help.

Try this first. Take the Fridge out. Turn it upside down and leave it say over night or even an hour or two. Put it back in and there's every chance it will start working properly

It may be a daft comment (I'm assuming that "icebox" means that it is a fridge with an integral ice compartment at the top of the unit - as opposed to a fridge freezer) but if it's still making ice then, then something is getting in the way of the evaporator plates - and that is usually a build up of ice. It doesn't need much to stop cold air circulation.

I've found that on boats fridges are much more prone to icing-up than domestic units.

We did try defrosting the fridge but on power up it does the same thing. The icebox is just a ice compartment at the top of the fridge.

We can live without a lot of things on the boat but I hate warm beer !!

Interesting idea, if it saves me £800 its worth trying, thanks

Hi. Be careful if it's a Wseco compressor fridge! ! Byron is right if it's an evaporation type but I suspect you have a compressor in there and that won't like being upside down. I have had the same situation and after loads of emails with dometic I fitted 2 fans and a vent above the compressor job done. These fridges are very prone to overheating unless very well ventilated. One fan pulls air in under the fridge the other pulls it out above. Computer fans cost a couple of quid.
