Hi everyone. Im trying to locate the whereabouts of a canoe sterned yacht that was located over by the Chartroom restaurant at Kip Marina in Scotland about 10 years ago. She was in poor condition, and one day vanished. I went in to the marina office a few years ago to ask about the boat, but presumably because it wasn't fibreglass and wasn't going to make them any money they couldn't be bothered looking up their records.

The boat was canoe sterned, about 26 to 28 feet long, with a bowsprit. Her hull was painted cream with red antifoul. Other details I remember are that she had round portlights (one of which had a sticker in it for some boating festival down south - I forget where); no propeller (but inboard engine); a large anchor winch on the foredeck, and possibly cream decks. She had a long keel, and I think was sittting on props.

For a couple of months before she disappeared, she had a note on her bow referring to unpaid marina charges (come on kip marina - its not that difficult to find out!) with the owners address, which was somewhere in Dunoon.

She was lying along the row of boats that sits beside the fence bordering the Ardgowan estate, next to a beautiful green Dragon called Onward. I'd like to find her and, if the owner will accept, restore her.

was it one of these:

Cause that is a hillyard. If the boatyard cant be bothered its probably cause they have chopped it up to get the space. Look around there are plenty of others needing tlc, but be prepared for a lot of work.

Well, I don't know the boat you refer to but can offer one almost identical! Albert Strange's MIST, designed 1906, built 1907, was recently abandoned on Gareloch and is in the process of being rescued with a view to finding a restorer. She is available to a serious and capable restorer for the cost of the recovery operation, which has been financed by members of The Albert Strange Association (of which I'm Sec). She appears to be in sound condition but tatty having sunk at her mooring just after a repaint some years back and spent 2 months on the bottom. Since then she has been sitting in the open unprotected. Teak planking we believe, which would explain its good condition; we think she's a very good candidate for restoration. Contact me if interested!
