I've often been thinking of devising a pair of legs for my Astinor but didn't know really the best way to go about it.

The keel of my boat can't take the ground because the piece of metal that contains the bottom of the rudder and also protects the propellor goes 3 inches below it.

I did manage to do it temporarily by picking a sloping beach beside a pier, inserting several long beams of wood under the boat and putting two beer kegs with holes cut in them, under the wood. The front part of the keel then was OK resting on the higher part of the sand. That little episode neccessitated wearing a wet suit and waiting for the tide to go out and then waiting for it to come in again. (I had to do a little job on the rudder.)

Anyone know how to design legs that would be strong enough and yet at the same time would take up very little room on the boat and would also be a doddle to deploy? Any legs that I've seen for yachts would not be strong enough to take the 5 tonnes of my boat. Remember the keel would be taking no weight apart from possibly a minimal amount at the bow.

I think what I'm asking for can't be done. However if you don't ask, you'll never find out!
