Looking for a sextant

I have been VERY impressed by the modern Chinese sextants - big mirrors, light weight, seem very well made.

I have a Plath, which is a masterpiece of German precision optics - but it weighs a ton.

I found a good one in the local free ads, Freiberger for £200.
They may not be the best things to send by post and I would want to see the condition by close inspection before buying one. No corrosion, perpendicularity check.

The Push button astro or cooks sextant tables give tables and details on how to check a sextant.

I bought an EBBCO plastic sextant to learn basics with. Seems OK, and was 30 quid on EB@Y. Depends how serious you want to be, I just wanted to learn for the hell of it.

Look on eBay - type in sextant in the search box and you'll get several, even ignoring the cheap miniature Made in China ones!
