Dear All,

We hope this finds you well, in good spirit and having a good day.

We're setting up 24 volt electricity on our boat, and are looking for lighting solutions for 24 volts.

Would anyone have experience of and would they recommend LED lighting, for inside lighting, please?

We're also having trouble finding 24 volt fluorescent fixtures and lamps, at least for a decent price.

Any tips where to look for 24 volt lighting at a good price, in Europe, online, please?

Thank-you.

May peace be on you,

Timothy.

Welcome to the forum.

Why are you installing 24volt system? This will greatly restrict the products available to you, plus as you have indicted, 24v items are much more expensive, scale of economics I think.

A few more details about yourself in your bio is always nice.

Welcome to the chat market place.

I run 24v domestic systems on board, and have a little difficulty finding supplies, especially for LED lights.

The commercial transport world has lots of resources for 24 v.

red lorry, yellow lorry, lit lorry

If you are practical, you can make up units from here

Dear Galadriel & All,

Thank-you for your replies.

We're setting up 24 volts because we're coming down from a 32 volt system, and are hoping to be able to use some of the equipment that currently run on 32 volts with the 24 volts setup.

And the reason to come down from 32 volts is that it is even more difficult to find parts for, not to mention batteries.

:-)

Most people end up with a 24 to 12 volt converter for some of there equipment ie radios. either direct drive or with another 12v battery using the converter as a charger. (I would go direct no battery)
However you should persevere with 24 volts for your lighting.
Individual LEDs can work very efficiently on 24 volts with a suitable resistor although most commercial LED light clusters use an electronic current control circuit. The links look interesting. olewill
