Looking to next year already, we're thinking about heading for Holland. We've never been there. Any suggestions as where to go, what we need by way of pilot books/charts etc. and what to be careful of?

Basically, Holland comes in four bits and it depends how much time you have which bits you will want to see.
First, there is the Delta area of the South, gentle sailing and nice places and lots of Brits
Second, the canal bits in between - long stretches of canal but some nice places, like Gouda
Thirdly, the Ijselmeer, with Amsterdam and a wide sailing area and historic towns
Lastly, Friesland and the Frisian islands. Characteristic landscape inland and more adventurous sailing between the shallows.
Each area has its merits so just be guided by the time available.
