They're pretty much up there with the marinas for their visitor berthing charges - and you often get the "pleasure" of being rafted ... and electric is extra ... Showers are said to be cleaned once a week whether they need it or not ...

I'm not saying it's not worth the visit - but I wouldn't class it as a cheap stay.

Amazing! He looked to be on a beam reach, true wind, yet his main was fairly close sheeted. Quite incredible really the speed being reached these days.

The instrument showed a true wind angle of 120 degrees and true wind speed of 24.4 knots, giving a boat speed of over 34 knots!

What is the mechanical advantage of that system, do you calculate ?

Probably 8:1 at the back end of the mainsheet. Of course, there may be more at the front....

No more purchases, but it does, I believe, go onto one of the great big coffee grinder winches.

The other thing is that the traveller at least - not sure about main and jibsheets - are hand held all the time. It's what guy sitting down with the rope in his hand is doing.

Indeed, and a reefed genoa only. With 3000 miles to go, now that's what I call cruising!

Reminds me of the conciliatory thoughts I used to have when being passed by much speedier cyclists on long events ......... "If you are so bloody fast, how come it took you so long to get here?"

Because it's a sailing boat it is being propelled through the water by the wind - which results in very little wake - you'd probably get more off my tender with a 2.5hp on the back ...
