Hi All

has anyone managed to find any long term insurance for there pets?

We have a boxer dog that has cost us a small fortune with an eye problem.... boy do wish we had insurance for her! :-)

Any advice greatly received

Stu

There are plenty of long-term policies for pets available provided you don't leave the UK long term - not sure how it works out if you are moving around. The policies we have looked at have such a large excess that they really do not help out much with a young, healthy animal. I guess the point is that, if you start while they are young and healthy, and stick with a single company, they will usually continue to provide cover when he/she becomes old and sick. I suspect that you would get a similar level of cover if you had put the same amount of money as the premium into a savings account, but are you sufficiently disciplined?

The problem we have found is that most policies only give 30 days outside the UK... we plan to be away for a couple of years... that's the problem

UK insurance companies seem to have a blind spot about what lies across 22 miles of English Channel.

Why not visit a Vet (as you are in France) and enquire about French cover - they are much more likely to encompass the whole of the EU - as they do with vehicle insurance.
