Bit of a click and hope really, I've tried Fairline several times but with no response and the Fairline forum, also trawled through the internet etc.
I'm looking for wiring diagrams, I know people have added stuff but it would be nice to have a base to work from.

Ta.

Probably of no use at all, but I'm sure I have the manuals for mine.

Obviously a different boat (Turbo 36) but a Fairline of a similar era, possibly of some use if you draw a complete blank?

Thanks Murv, appreciate that.
I'm still trying to get my head round the battery setup, with all the batteries isolated (so each battery is disconnected and then tried on their own) the port starts the port engine only, starboard one starts starboard engine and domestics, centre battery starboard engine and domestics.
The port and starboard batteries are linked together in parallel.
The centre battery is linked with the negative only ( as far as I can see).
The problem then is a lot of the heavy cabling runs under the battery box which would mean moving all three of the batteries out (200ah), getting a hernia and then seeing if I can unbolt the box.
I know I could try with a multimeter to see where they go, but will probably just get confused......or I could get a proper marine electrician to sort it all out...anyone recommendations in the Medway area?
As regards the charging circuit.......

I know exactly what you mean, having replaced just one set of batteries on Friday...

Slightly different setup already then in that the port bank serves as the leisure bank as well ,the starboard is start only and we have no middle battery but all are linked on the negative side.
Farsco, from the forums, had a Sedan 36 and found it was factory fitted with a split charge relay, found by tracing the cables so I guess that was probably a standard fitment at the time.
However, our cabling sounds similar to yours in that it runs under the battery box, it's heavy, stiff and unyielding and extremely difficult to follow it anywhere.
So, I have to shamefully admit that I still have no idea how the charging circuits actually work. I am going to connect the feed to the smart gauge this weekend so I can monitor the voltages on both banks, it should all become clear then without involving the risk of a hernia, or of welding myself to the battery terminals.

As for marine electricians, I do have the number of a guy who's very good, he's based in Sheppey but is quite expensive.
Best bet may be to lure young Fred down there with the promise of a turn on the helm at some point, then seal him in there with a few tools!

If you want any scans of my manuals, or the number of the guy on Sheppey, please just shout.

Thanks Murv, I drop tested the batteries and the centre one was a bit wobbly so I've got a nice 200ah Yuasa arriving on Wednesday, already booked an appointment with the back clinic for thursday.
I'm off along the south coast for a couple of weeks starting this saturday, appreciate if we could meet up when I come back.
Fred seems engrossed in cobbling together something electrical at the moment so will probably need rescueing when he ends up going round in circles...again.....:)

Absolutely, sounds good :) Have a fantastic trip, I did see you passing RCC on Saturday (or Sunday, can't remember now!) your boat looked superb. I did wave, but not sure if you spotted me as I was clinging to the radar arch, trying to feed some cable through whilst trying not to drop anything, or myself, into the river!

Might have a run to Stangate Saturday afternoon if the forecast remains the same, and will be working on the boat prior to that, so will keep an eye out for you as well as a sharp eye out for a rotating Princess!

Just hope that pesky north easterly goes away, was looking out for you on saturday but not sure which Turbo was yours!
Stay dry.

Bear in mind that the Fairline wiring diagrams are really only schematics and dont show detail.

Droppers for example are missing. I dont recall what mine says about batteries specifically but the wiring diagrams don't really help that much other than a reference as to what is on what circuit which has a use.

I didnt quite follow your description but in general on a fairline you have...

one dedicated start battery ( or 2 if 24v) to one engine
house / start batteries for the others engine
a cross over solenoid allowing the banks to be put in parallel if one goes flat and needs to start the other

Some boats have a dedicated generator battery, but I have never had a boat with that - they just use the boat batteries.

Drop tests are often misleading. Turn off chargers. Leave a load on for an hour then test the voltage of each battery.

Thanks for your help, to be honest I think I'll probably need to get an electrician to sort it out, as you can see from the photo.
Looking aft.
Think I'll ask on the PBO forum as well.

It looks a mess but you can tidy it simply enough buy the cutting them all back into a single block with a single ( as long as current ok) wire to the batter for most if it .

But ..... direct to the battery will have multiple things that are now not controlled by your domestic or engine cut of solenoid / switch which depending on what they are needs sorting.

Hi,

Did drop you a PM. I am your way quite a bit in Chatham, so can always poke my nose in and sort it out fairly quickly. I have a similar boat myself and had to do the same to it. I also have most of the "manuals" for all the Fairline and Princess models from about 1980. Will see what yours has regards wiring diagrams or information and if any good can print you a copy.

Hope everything else is good with you as didn't get to pop in last time.
