Long shot but worth a try....turbo spares NOW SORTED :) ?

Hi All,

If you read my previous post you will know I bloody dissolved the compressor wheel of my turbo in brick cleaner...!

Yup award due to me for numpty of the year!!!!!!

I'm trying to source a compressor wheel (turbine thingy aluminium alloy) have tried everywhere...all the turbo people in the UK and even Borg Warner (kkk) themselves with no luck....

So...anybody have or know for a ad31/kad32 (same part No) turbo lying around anywhere?

Asking before I may be forced to buy a new replacement ££££££

Oh and feel free to take the mickey! my mates have done so since I did the deed.... :(

Thanks,Rob.

What goes "plink plink fizz"? Turbo parts in brick cleaner.......

seriously, I'd look around for a recon unit. By the time you've got all the bits, bearings seals etc etc and the spent the time rebuilding it, you'd be better off sourcing a reconditioned unit.

Turbo's aren't really "marine" dedicated units, so a trawl of the usual motor/truck spares people will probably throw up a resonable cost replacement. Do you know the make and model?

The turbo is a K26-2960MXA6.71GAAXB, Part Number 53269886094

Not sure this helps much, though, as the main supply route is through VP.
I had a look with the US supplier I sometimes use, and it came back with a big scary number.

An exchange turbo through VP is about £1100, which is still not good news.

Why did you try and clean an aluminium thing in HCl?

Edit: check that, I read your other thread. Silly billy!

Thanks,Rob.

It aint a record.......Ssshhhhh I could be shot for revealing this but I know a welshman living in Cardiff who not content with 1 put 6 turbo shafts into a commercial cleaner of similar formulation and wondered who had stolen the compressors when he did this on a ship.....Just shafts and gas turbine wheels :D:D:D

They were piddly ones from a pair of medium speed diesels and not the big 600 series.

The alternative of course is to get a turner to make you anew one. Unlikely to be that expensive.
I know the idea of somebody making things rather than buying off the shelf is strange concept but you can rest assured that most WW2 aircraft which are still flying today is because the spare parts are made by miller and turners, who can still do the business

Ermm thanks for the suggestion and I do appreciate it......However....

I'm a toolmaker myself by trade and am still employed by an engineering Co (ok heavy stuff and in management now) but try googling a turbo compressor wheel and take a look at its complexity!?

Not a component you can knock up on a lathe or milling machine....you need the full cad details and at least a six axis cnc machine!

Try programming that from scratch....?

Might as well buy a new turbo assy.

It would have to very accurate, too.
Any slight imbalance at 120,000 rpm will make a right mess of the bathing platform.

Take your turbo to a man that can and see if he can find another make to replace it.

H,
From what I've learned through 48hrs of intensive research it's all down to the complex profile of the comp wheel and the way it sits within the comp housing, clerances, vortex's, rpm's etc etc.....

Slight changes can give moore boost=not good or less boost=poor performance!

I'm expecting a few call back's today from a couple of suppliers contacted yesterday to see if they have managed to track a comp wheel down, but my hopes are now fading and a replacement unit may be the only option..

As an aside...Borg Warner who now make the KKK/Schwitzer range of turbo's have proved to be next to useless in trying to help me! Contacted them numerous times yesterday with the simple question..."which distributor would stock this comp wheel"? mensiour came the reply I'm unable to tell you that and you will have to contact them yourself???

Seen how many in Europe?

Surely be easy to look at the stock number and see who has last ordered the part?

grrrrrrr! ahhhhhh! :(
