London a No-Go zone?

Oh I agree 100% but shouldn't the PLA have a duty to provide proper visitor moorings in London for short stays?? Its kinda underused bit of waterway otherwise! Somehow I suspect that Paris and similar cities have some decent short term public moorings.

Perhaps the PLA should become part of TfL then they have to respond to users needs?? :D

Boris has already tried to get his fingers into the PLA, until it was pointed out to him its remit stretches almost to the North Foreland and Harwich. Also, its his bit of the river that spends the money, whilst the non London bit earns it.

WOT speed limit !

It's do-able with fenders and decent springs though and now there is a speed limit in place it's much better as well.

Trust me.We parked at the Heritage Moorings just below Tower Bridge arriving about 9am after coming down from Teddington. We were moored on the inside and sheltered by a large heavy old ex London Rochester ballast coaster called " Rock" .For the first hour or so we put out more and more fenders and springs to try and damp down the wash.Eventually the wash caused by the fast ribs/targas/trip boats and the clippers became so bad my lady wife refused to remain on boat and there was a possibility of serious damage due to cleats being ripped out etc.
As rough as I can remember,we gave in and pleaded with St Kats to squeeze us in.Only other option was a long journey round to Medway that same night.
We are a heavy weight old tub as far as boats go.
Very much doubt it is possible to provide leisure moorings when the chaos that reigns in central London is allowed to continue. Is not the rubbish barges that cause the problems, the biggest culprits are the heavy trip boats, the fast ribs constantly speeding up and down followed to a lesser extent by the clippers and the odd Targa.
Doubt anything will ever change due the amount of income generated by the tourist industry and the money that would be lost if some sort of minimum wash regime was introduced.
Cannot remember the Seine being such a horrid place for hobby boaters.
IMHO.

Sat and watched an approx 80ft Dutch barge moored on the Hermitage moorings next to St Kats this year and I was horrified at the roll it was experiencing, a really fit guy was moving about on board and clinging on for dear life. The permanent residents there seemed a bit better but they are all rafted up and better protected, I certainly wouldn't want a mooring for more than overnight anywhere in the Pool of London.

Was watching all of them bouncing about while we were there.
The area around Tower bridge is by far the worst simply because it is a bit of a squeeze point and everything wants to get a look round that area.It is possible to moor at odd out of hours times but as soon as the tourist traffic gets into full swing it becomes very uncomfortable indeed as many have found out while waiting to enter St Kats.Have passed by many times during early mornings and it has been like a mill pond.
Doubt if anything can/will be done about it as the tourist trade will always have priority over all else.
Like it or lump it I am afraid.

worse at HW as all that wash refracts off of the sea walls, it has no where to absorb the waves

The best trip through london is early, before the trip boats start, tide permitting,it's a millpond, lovely.the worst, evenings when the trip boats are charging for home.bounced my mate outa his bunk in the front cabin!

It appears that at low water maybe the energy of the wash is getting absorbed as it goes up the exposed beaches.
However at HW it just bounces back and forth getting amplified by each passing vessel from the verticle walls.
