Are log transponders a standard size? I have an old Seafarer log which has stopped working and I need to replace it. I'll probably get a NASA clipper duet since they look pretty reasonably priced, but will its transponder fit the hole in the hull? I really don't want to get into structural glass-fibre work...

Hi

Not sure I can answer your direct question about all being the same, however if you visit http://www.nasamarine.com you can download the User manual for the Duet which details the size of hole you need to cut for the transponder - spookily I was wondering the same thing this morning!

Cheers

Neil

We bought a Nasa Duet Clipper last year, in the hope to replace our 30 years old instruments.

Depth sounder was no issue, given that you can seal it inside the hull. Transponder was a bit more difficult: the diameter seems to be pretty standard across constructors. However, the through-hull fitting length can vary quite a lot. We have a nice bronze thought-hull fitting, quite long, and the NASA transponder is too short to go to the other side… Still looking for a solution…

Sandrine.
