What do you put in the notes section? Fuel purchases?

Should it be a bound document or can it be kept in a loose leaf folder?

I tend to just jot down a quick summary of the crew, sail and general weather and any stops, unless it's a passage in which case I'm more inclined for some reason to take regular readings of all the various course, speed, weather and other items.

Notes scribbled at the bottom tend to be anything that was memorable or worth remembering or that worked well, so maybe a good marker for entering an anchorage, wildlife spotted, lesson learnt on berthing - that sort of thing.

I suppose legibility is an issue but it was very bouncy and the start of the 2nd night!!! I just log date-time-course-barometer-Lat & long then notes that can be anything - I keep a rather more tidy weather book with the latest forecast written down rather than 'remembered'... I just use a hard back A4 type book and do the 'notes' on the page facing the basic info. Within the log book 'notes' I also record fuel purchases - who is on board and so on..

Here follows a slightly but not much neater version of my very simple log
