My Lofrans Royal anchor winch is getting stiff and I want to give it a service. I did it a couple of years ago but this time I thought I might spend dosh on a service kit and do a proper job. The main problem with these winches seems to be corrosion of the alloy casing which compresses the plastic shaft bearings onto the shaft. I reused the bearings last time but they probably could have done with replacing. A service kit is available which is around £35-40 but I can‘t find a list of contents. Has anyone I used one of these kits? Are they worth the money and in particular do they contain the essential shaft bearings? Thanks fir any advice.

I serviced my Lofrans Royal windlass a few years ago. Slight corrosion of the alloy casting was enough to lock the shafts onto the bushes. Mine was pristine inside apart from the corrosoion at the outer edges of the bushes housing. I am trying to recall the company that supplied the replacement bushes who were extremely helpful and the bushes were cheap. I cannot imagine what you could replace that could come to £30-40.
AR Peachment are the Lofrans Agents in the UK and are the people I dealt with who gave me advice as well as the bushes that were just afew £.
You have to be careful NOT to undo the large nuts at the top and bottom of the casing until you have the crown wheels out as these are pins that the planet wheels pivot on.
