Lofrans Winch Nylon Bushes

Have you bought a Lofrans Royal manual windlass that was supplied without the Part No 328 11mm nylon bushes that are used to fit it? EC Smith tell me they are spare parts. I reckon that as they are shown on tech drawing and referred to in installation guide that they are part of kit. Anyone else in same boat>

Assume you mean part no: 268. I need 4 of these for a secondhand Lofrans but having priced other parts from ECS Ltd [the Lofrans agent], I assume they will be expensive. I'd like to know if you find a cheap source. I had thought of making some.

I think they should be included with each new windlass as they are essential to avoid corrosion of the aluminium casting.

You'd use Delrin rod at a guess. I got some off ebay (for another job)

Well now! If you happen to have any left over from your job [minimum diameter, say 17mm], perhaps you might care to sell me a piece? You could send it with the rig tension gauge.

I used stainless bolts surrounded with sealant and with rubber washers between steel and ali. Wanted to make sure that the thing stayed where I put it!

Perfectly ok no doubt, but I'm thinking that when I take it home for a strip down and service it will be quicker and easier to remove if there are plastic top-hat bushes under the holding down nuts instead of sealant.

sealant on the bottom part of the bolt, where it goes through the windlass. Nuts are under the deck and nowhere near the sealant.

I did think of installing it that way but decided I'd like the bolts to stay in place [like studs] in the bedplate/deck/backing plate "sandwich" [where they are sealed in place with Sikkaflex to prevent water getting down]. I used dome nuts above the deck to hide and protect the exposed threads.

I more or less used up all the piece I had, it was 50mm diameter anyway.

Your tension gauge is evading capture at the moment.

Don't know if you ever bought any of these but I rang EC Smith a couple of days ago and was told these bushes are more than £4 each including vat less postage!!! Worth making some, I think, if only for the satisfaction of not being ripped off.
