A couple of manuals make referance to Loctite 222. In my local chandlers I can only find 271, and a selection of colours in my local car shop.

Does the panel use blue Loctite rather than 222, or is it completely different - in which case where do I get it?

222 is screwlock, a fairly low strength locking agent for small fasteners.
As to '271', are you sure it's not 270 or 2701? These are stronger locking agents, often used for studs and other things that don't often come apart. As well as Loctite branded products, there are others. They'd be called something like Screwlock/fix and Studlock/fix respectively, or some variation on the theme.

For either to work effectively, the fasteners to be fixed should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased.

Try a motorcycle shop or good hardware store. They'll probably be cheaper than a chandlery, anyway. Ask for Studlock. The guy behind the counter should know what you're on about.
