Went through Caversham yesterday at 9am. Lockie said they would all be gone by next April as Cart wanted it that way. I'm sure it's been done to death here but what has Cart got to do with it at present? Is there a definite tlmeframe for a take over.
Anyway, enjoyed the best days cruise since forever. T and K to Wallingford in 5 hours. No one about. Beautiful day such a shame that the river was so quiet. Loads of space at Pangbourne and Goring.

Strange that it is so quiet, this is usually a busy weekend in the season. We're just having a day trip tomorrow, probably T&K to Goring and back, hopefully we won't be queueing at the locks too much.

Is anyone going to answer Plumbob's question!
The above used to be called "Fred drift"!

I am a bit out of touch, but for some time EA has had more support than Canals and Rivers Trust (Cart). Has something changed?

Fred Drift indeed. Where have you been Mr T. Are you out on Licence or totally free?

Only out on licence, Byron!!
Fancy disposing of your delightful launch without letting me know.
Restricted to upper Thames for rest of this year and very frustrated. Load of hobo dossers littering the river bank and occupying large areas of otherwise useable bankside moorings.
Current YBW contributors seem to be far too PC and very understanding of circumstances of "poor" people occupying rust heaps, rotting on the riverside and turning the Royal Thames into a floating scrapyard!!

My thanks to B1 for the PM reply re my original post. I know that you have a slight dilemma as to how and when to pass the relevant information on.
Miket is right on the button with his last paragraph, Reading riverside is a complete disgrace. The whole lot are taking the p;*:s out of those of us work bloody hard for what we earn!!
There, that's better.

Re: possible transfer to C&RT

My thanks to B1 for the PM reply re my original post. I know that you have a slight dilemma as to how and when to pass the relevant information on.
The following is a synopsis of the current position as I understand it ( the bold bits are my emphasis):

The government continues to be committed to the eventual transfer of EA waterways to C&RT as and when financial constraints allow. However, it will also need to be subject to terms and conditions acceptable to C&RT as they are a charitable trust and their trustees must act in the best interests of the trust.

C&RT have been and are continuing to collect information that will assist them to make a considered proposal if they wish to do so. There is no agreed timescale and, unless and until a clear proposal is received from C&RT the EA will continue to manage the river as best they can given current circumstances and funding.

Even if an eventual proposal meets with government approval it is likely to be a considerable time before all the ensuing consultations and legal issues are progressed - my best guess would be several years.

In the meantime, the EA are considering their planning for several years to come. It is clear that this will focus on making the EA waterways less dependant on public purse and increasingly self funding.
I have no reason to believe that any transfer is imminent and user groups, particularly the TMBA and ATYC, continue to press for maintenance and services to be maintained.

I am in no doubt that continuing funding issues are a much more serious and imminent threat to managing all aspects of the river than any possible transfer to C&RT.

She couldn't have gone to a better home. John Calvert has bought her and will no doubt restore her to her former glory as he has with his Dunkirker. As regards the situation of 'liveaboards' befouling the Thames. Authority doesn't seem to care and rather like Pikeys the tail wags the dog. It's true everyone is far too PC and scared to call it as it is. No doubt soon any mention of 'Liveaboards' will occasion an accusation of racism.

Thanks for taking the time posting that.
A clear concise account of the situation for both Thames and Medway.
