A friend of men left Walton this morning and got to Cookham before he had to do a lock on self-service! And that was only because it was after hours! Quite different to every time I've been out this year.

Today, probably for the first time this year, every lock was manned with only those with no volunteers unmanned over lunch. The volunteers are now the principal cover for lunch breaks as there are no summer assistants and 30 fewer paid reliefs despite the above inflation increases in regostration fees.

Next week, starting 16 July EA will be consulting on a 5.7% increase in fees for the next two years - have your say - respond to the consultation. As you know last year’s increase was immediatly followed by a cut in Govt Grant. Are you happy for this to happen again?

I will post details of the comsultation when available.
