I know some people give lock keepers a bad press but I just wanted to say thanks to all the guys who looked after us on our journey from Shepperton to Harleyford over Wednesday and Thursday of this week. They rang ahead to let the next keeper know that we were due and enquired as to our final destination to make sure we made it. We even had an apology at Boulters from the chap at Bray who missed us.
It was great having the river to ourselves and as long as you have some heat and can plug in the shorepower overnight (Windsor) I would recommend a late season cruise. Don't rely on Diesel supplies (two of the main marinas didn't have working pumps and check that your major items are working - difficult finding an engineer during holiday week...
