I am visiting the upper Thames for the first time next week. I have a couple of lock handles that I use on the Medway. I heard that they won't fit Thames locks .If not where can I buy ones that will.

The first manual lock going upstream is Kings Lock - just above Oxford. From here all the way to Lechlade are manual "spin the wheel" types. Lowest bridge enroute is Osney in Oxford.

The upper -Upper Thames locks are the nicest manual locks in the whole wide world to operate.

The sluices are all gate mounted and of the ship's wheel variety; very little effort required to operate them.

The balance beams are humongous lengths of pine, nicely shaped and perfectly balanced. Again very little effort to open and close.

Enjoy

Be nice polite and friendly with the lockies - they don't get to see many folk....
