When was the most recent time that EA did aniything like this:-

and to make it more challenging invited the public to view the works?

No axe to grind - just wondering how EA management may have lost touch with their paying public.
(BTW lock gares at Teddington don't count for the purpose of my query)

Working drinking water points would be good

@TrueBlue

Where and when was that, please?

To answer your last question - I believe that Thames locks, when under refurbishment are building sites and controlled by the contractor, and no member of the public is permitted to enter. Indeed the lock keeper even needs to gain permission from the contractor for access.

IIRC the photo and some others was taken in 2013
The lock is Benson
A general invitation to view was made by EA and a presentation was made by Paul (or was he Peter) Power to the assembled multitude.
The lock chamber was also refurbished and I think both sets of gates were replaced and the chamber refurbished at the same time.
Although its a small lock the gates are impressively large.
A mosr infornative day out!

Would love to tour an empty lock. Shame H&S makes it difficult now.
H&S executive were one of my customers, not onerous to work for, very pragmatic and not part of the blame avoidance culture.
