Hi Gang,
My experience of the North Sea suggests that windfarms are not charted whilst being built.
The charting seems to follow handover.
I am amazed that there have not been a series of shipwrecks, but perhaps I don't correctly understand the position.
As I will be sailing from Ipswich to Inverness next week, I would welcome any suggestions on finding up to date info on the windfarms and the construction sites that are actually in construction rather than just proposed.

Thanks

Brendan

I am amazed by the suggestion that they are not charted. I monitor NtM for my web site from the Wash down to Dover and across to the Hook of Holland and I can't think of one wind farm under construction that has not had an NtM. Different Wind Farms during construction have had different policies regarding their own issue of NtMs - the London Array being the best with weekly notices but I admit that as you go north the detail seems to be less forthcoming. But (I haven't checked my site) it is only a couple of weeks since there was notice of a survey on the East Anglian (no building has started there yet). I am currently preparing an article/document/guide to all the current activity in the area I monitor. It won't be ready by next week but if you PM me an email address I can send you a draft image I have down on what you will encounter between Ipswich and the Wash. There is some interesting things in the NtM such as the wave drone you might run over - have a look at the Temporary Notices on this page http://www.crossingthethamesestuary.com/page9.html

Charts and maps are never up to date some even have deliberate mistakes in them, but that is another story. As tillergirl says NtM are there for you.
