Great news .

I have successfully located a Bruce anchor in weed and sand using the following method
1 Flake out the chain to the required depth
2 Take up a small foxhole spade in your right hand
3 Take up the anchor holding firmly to the chest in the crook of ones arms and jump over board remembering to pass the chain on the correct side of the pulpit
3 Once on the bottom walk with the anchor towards the nearest piece of clear sand
4 Dig a hole with your spade and locate the anchor
5 Cover up the hole and if there are any large rocks near by place them over it
6 Ascend to the surface breathing out
7 Ajust the rode as necessary once back on board
8 Finish off with a good rub down by the first mate followed a G and T and whatever
9 Once SWIMBO has seen how to do it properly then she will perform all subsequent manoeuvers to ensure future good holdings /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hylas has a (foxhole?) spade already, so that will be one less item of equipment needed for him!
And Craig might need his spade in order to follow your technique to the Tee (isnt that what anchoring is all about, a real black art of techniques?), but he does not need any ancillary rocks to hold his Rock(nah) down........
Me, I have always snorkelled on the anchor AFTER chucking it out - silly me, I realise what I am doing wrong now.
Does this method work for CRQs as well?

I know that! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Been there, got the tee shirt.

I wuz wonderin' 'bout CRocQs - those CRQ things like wot wuz used to moor the springer hound in another thread ? ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

And CRocQs are not to be confused with Crocnahs, or even Rocnas, which are allegedly very fine anchors indeed.

Edit - Catman, I know the feeling (ouch!) re toes and CQRs (perhaps the same applies with CRQs?) - altho' the hinge usually manages to find my fingers....

I'm sad I got a DELTA and it works

I feel I'm missing out on all these anchor threads

I need an anchor that don't work Where can I get one from

cheers Joe

You need one of Hylas' prehistoric anchors from the last century.

Ooops, sorry, just realised you have one already.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ok then, how about one of the more modern ones that looks like a rock with sticks lashed to it, but in reality is really a super high tech RQC in disguise? That might just do the trick..

Even better, acting as start gate for Honda Youth RIB challenge I threw out 7.5 Kg Bruce, followed by 25 m 8mm chain in 5 metres depth on Sand/Shingle bottom. Anchor held superbly, probably due more to weight of chain than anything else. Didn't move an inch. Anchor Alarm set to 0.01 Nm, didn't even register, until I raised anchor and moved away

Well, they were designed to hold oil rigs in-situ in depths where weed is not a problem, or so I've heard.

Same name and company but very different anchors. The Bruce you know is not the ones they use on the rigs, it's the recreational version and now gone the way of the Dodo. Sad really.

talking of fox holes--prince charles went to the remote island of mc,kelpi and arrived with a hat on his head in the shape of a fox.Why have you got a hat like that on said his host. It was the queen,s idea he said. when i told her where i was going she said "where the fox hat.

One like this? I doubt if any of us could drag that one.
