I went through reently and initially I was pleased to see that although there were not flags on the pot buoys they were new and bright yellow and veryy visible but in a row where you would ideally like to pass. Giving about 40ft clearance which I thought was enough we picked up a flong loating line, quite thick about 1/2" around a rudder which then brought us back to the buoy. As it was slack water it was not too difficult to pull in some slack and then push the line down under the rudder and away.
Apart from the long lines on the very visible buoys they may well have you concentrate on avoiding those and then a submerges older pot buoy get you. We should have gone further out with hindsight.
