Have heard some lob pots around France are now using rope which has a core of stainless steel wire in it.

Anyone know if this is true? If so, what type of bolt or wire cutters would you carry?

Piers, if you scroll right to the bottom of the main forum menu, you will see a "Fouled Stern Gear" report which you can enter such events. As to the type of cutter, I carry two, a Junior Hacksaw (with spare blade) which rips through rope and steel hawser faster than anything (try it on rope when you get a chance), and a Gilbarco sheet steel cutter - just in case.
