hi,

we re planning to move to london next year. As we live already on a sailboat here in france we d like to do the same over there. however as i read on different post it looks pretty hard to get a residential berthing in london. Is there any other way to moore the boat over there? can t we just stay as a visitor until we find a residential mooring? any advice?
thanks

Forget central London, but look at marinas on the the River Medway, excellent train service to London and a much nicer place to live.

well it's a bit subective isn't it?! And entirely dependent on your requirements.

We live on a sailboat in London and we prefer it to being on the Medway.

Suggest the OP contacts BMWL head office to enquire about Grade 1 Leisure or residential berths at Limehouse.

Dont tell them youre a liveaboard, But you stay onboard some nights..
Its your boat afterall... Marinas in the UK will not have liveaboards so easy thanks to the councils.
But if you dont ask they never will.
Ive done it for 10 years in the UK in various marinas up and down the coast between Newcastle and Brighton.

Yes I just meant that I thought that no liveaboard berths were available in London, no criticism intended of London or Limehouse!

SOuthdock has, but waiting list. Or used to anyway.

Any berths near a train station in the medway? Spent a bit of time down there but always a trek to get anywhere without a car.

As for the OP, you should get away with a month in southdock, 6 months over winter in Limehouse, St Kats not so sure about these days. I was in there for ages but it all changed a while ago.

Been on that for 8 years now. I worked out that at the current rate of availability I should bubble to the top of the list some time in the 25th century.

that's the list for residential. They have annual coming up fairly regularly - we were offered one last year after only 6 months on the list. Can't stay more than 3 nights a week (officially). Lots do though.

Chatham Maritime is a ten minute bus ride from Chatham station - 40 mins to Victoria or 1 hour to Charing Cross. Good marina facilities, with restaurants, bars, shops and entertainment next door.
