Scouse robber jokes are passe lads - just like those about blacks and jews.

A boat show up north is a fantastic idea - and the Liverpool is the ideal place for it. The new waterfront arena, the huge number of docks, the Marina, the world heritige listed buildings fronting the Mersey - to say nothing of the great nightlife.

Like any big City it has it's good and bad parts; but as a venue it would run rings around the likes of Excel. Liverpool is undergoing a long overdue renaissance and to host it during the 2008 European Capital of Culture would be great for the City and the visitors. Unless the idea is spoilt by a lot of prejudiced, closed minded bigots.

I do love these passionate defences of Liverpool scallies.
If it's not true why does every shop in Liverpool(including the charity shops)have bloody great security screens on the windows. Why do the off licences separate their customers from stock with makrolon screens. Why is my scouse partner paranoid about locking the car and not leaving anything valuable in view.
And why when I'm sitting having a pint in the Black Horse,The Swan or even the side bar in the Adelphi are there processions of people selling knock-offs from carrier bags?

Liverpool, lovely as it is,is not a suitable place to leave valuables unattended.

Liverpool is just the same as every other city in the UK that has an area classed as inner!

I worked in Liverpool for 3 years and never got as much as a scratch on the car. I kept my boat in the marina and was totally satisfied about the service, staff and safety of it whilst there.

I like others think that Liverpool has much to offer with regards to a boat show and every year they put on the Mersey River Festival that is second to non...... and before people ask, I'm not a scouser!

Give the place a break it is after all one of the nations premier maritime ports. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Colmce this isn't directed at you or your comments!

Yes - in defence of Liverpool, I was there last week and was greatly impressed with the filling station owner who wanted me to pay for my fuel BEFORE he would switch the pump on.

Obviously, I must have looked well-shady....... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Only place I've ever parked me boat where I gained a pair of size 10 panties (black)- me mate looked at the size tag by the way when he shinnned up the mast to get them down.

I reckon the jokes are only as a result of the Southerners shock that we have boats up North - the magazines sure as hell never tell them and having been in to one or two of your southern marinas at least we know only the crooks rob from us!!!

As long as they don't hold it too near the marina, which is immediately adjacent to Toxteth! Actually I think it would be a great idea - nearby airport, good motorway access, within easy driving distance of the little towns of Manchester, Bradford and Leeds. Wapping dock looks possible, big open space by it waiting for reconstruction?

I sometimes suspect that only Southampton and London can do 'real' shows. The others would only do Mickey Mouse shows.

Wonder why the London boat show is declining. No interest from the rest of the country would be one possible cause.

I would be more incline to travel to Liverpool than London. And yes. I have been before.
