hi,
We are in Port Ginesta at the moment by Barcelona. were thinking of spending a few months here over the depths of winter but this marina is walking distance from nowhere and very quiet! as we have 2 small kids we were looking for somewhere more convenient and with some other people on their boats to add a bit of atmosphere!
what about port vell (if we can get in) or port olimpic or anywhere further north?

cheers!

Port vell is a great place to be, with lots going on and quite a few liveaboards, we are here. I know Ginestra and yes, it´s dead as a dodo! Theres nowhere around there. Olympic is OK, a bit noisy, but not too bad and in walking distance of quite a few facilities! In fact lots, including supermakets and multiscreen cinema (in English) I would plump for port vell, you may have a chance of getting in here, there´s a few berths empty and depends how big your boat is. You cant miss us! Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

In September we were told that the waiting list for overwintering in Port Vell had opened in April... which is not very promising for you. We have friends who managed to get a place in Real Club Nautico De Barcelona so that might be worth a try.

We were in Port Olimpico (as pedestrians) last weekend and it does look extremely full of boats. Good for facilities though.

Kalessin is in Marina Badalona which I would bet is even deader than Ginesta, although with reasonable access to trains, Metro and trams (10-15 mins walk and a bus running through the marina). It's also very dusty because of the building work. However, there is masses of space.

Palamos is 50 miles North of Barcelona. The marina had good facilities with WiFi Broadband and electric included for 205 Euros monthly for an eight metre boat. There were not more than three or four liveaboards there and hardly any yachts on passage. The Marina has a friendly cafe'. It would have gone up since 2005/2006 but that was a very favourable price. The town is three minutes walk and most pleasant. The prices quadruple each April 1st for the April Fools.

thanks for all of that! We are planning on leaving tomorrow and heading north from here stopping at Port vell and then the other marinas in turn until someone lets us stop. To aid us in our quest we will dress up our daughters in cute dresses and dangle them over the bows!!! (joke i promise!!)
