Recent genetic research indicates that these are in fact a distinct subspecies of grey seal and certain behavioural aspects tends to reinforce this research. Interested in the thoughts of this much respected forum on such matters. Certainly the sound "Claymore" is remarkably similar to "Flipper"

I heard this only applies to those born north of Watford though who can be easily recognised by the fact that they can't talk properly. If disturbed they can easily be recognised by their alarm call that sounds like "Sassnak Bustid!" "Sassnak Bustid!"
