A lithium based soap is water soluble. One with a calcium base is water resistant. Presumably one with a mixture of soaps lies somewhere between the two. One might suppose that a calcium based grease would be preferable for a stern gland and for other applications that come into contact with water, but strangely this does not seem to be true. For more-or less static joints, like chassis and spring hangers on trucks, calcium based greases seem to last better. In dynamic situations it seems that lithium performs better. I always use lithium myself. I would imagine that a mixed soap would be perfectly OK.

Thank you vyv_cox.
What you have said has been backed up by a research I have done on greases this afternoon. Lithium having longlasting properties & calcium being a waterproof anti-oxidising agent they should make a sutable combination for stern gland use.
