My Flybridge cruiser over recent months has developed a list to starboard after filling up with fuel in both tanks. The starboard side drops by about 2 inches at the waterline at the stern quarter. Weird. The tanks are identical, in the same place as they always were and no additional items have been added to the boat of any significance. Putting in about 60 odd litres less on the port side will balance things up. Each tank seems to take a similar amount of but the starboard side will usually take a wee bit more. The only thing I can think of is that a blockage in the air vent pipe on the port side is creating some kind of airlock, thus stopping that tank ever getting properly full up. Does that make sense or am I clutching at straws? Other than that I have not gat a clue why this is happening. Any ideas anyone? As always any assistance appreciated.

Yes, I had a blocked breather and it gave the impression of a full tank when in fact it was only two thirds full. Mine turned out to be the small gauze in the little chrome outlet bit. It got blocked with lime scale. Just gave it a prod with a blunt tool to get the scale off and everythings been fine since.

You probably have means of equalising the 2 tanks with a crossover link - basically a large pipe connecting the two tanks, isolated with cocks.
Normally ( on my boat anyway) this is closed so if one tank is contaminated with sludge, diesel bug or whatever the other tank remains clear. But if you open this up and completely balance the 2 tanks, this will at least determine if fuel imbalance is the problem. If having done so you still have a list - then you probably need top look at stowage.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the replies. It's definately nothing to do with stowage and it doesn't list with empty tanks. I am glad someone has seen the same problem with the tank breather at that is my theory. I will investigate that first. Much obliged.
