Hi all, having trouble starting one of the above engines. Engine is turning over, have fuel to the pumps, but nothing coming out of the pump. Have come across this before with older listers where the rack gets stuck, anyone know how I access the rack on this engine?

Thanks!

Has the engine got a primer handle, if so then ensure it is in the correct position.

Has the engine timing moved, it is not uncommon for them to come loose and not be checked regularly, you can spill time them.

Check the rotation of the engine as they come in both rotations and it is not uncommon to have spare parts fitted from an engine with an opposite rotation.

There are several variants of this engine, so has it got an electric or manual start, if it has an electric start then check the fuel shut off valve is working correctly, if it has low oil pressure shutdown then check the pressure switch and its connections as a defective pressure switch will prevent fuel from flowing, and if it is low oil pressure then replace the oil filter as a matter of course; I have assumed you have checked the engine oil level.

If it is an indirect injection unit and air cooled it won't have the fuel shut off valve, and it may or may not have the low oil pressure switch.

Hi all thanks for the replies. This engine was started and ran perfectly last August . It has only covered 300 hours from new. Never had a problem starting till now. Fuel to the pumps but nothing to the injectors
I removed the stop solinoid and the actual stop control dosnt move smoothly but does move to the 2 extremes .
On the older engines the pumps were totally covered with a plate and once removed the linkage controling the pumps was visable and could stick in the off position. How can I get to that rack on this engine
Thanks
Fergus

Gear end cover has to come off, under there is the fuel pump governer plate and linkages, if this is badged as an Onan unit there may be additional items covering it.
