I'm helping someone rebuild one on board his boat next week. Anyone with actual experience of this engine who can tell me what size bolts and nuts I need to have sockets with me to fit.
I don't want to row out to the boat with a boxful of stuff I don't need.
It's replacing the piston and cylinder, plus ancilliary stuff.

I had thought, judging by the number of people who have engine parts for these lying about, that there would have been a wealth of knowledge.

We had loads of small Listers on the ex MoD boats I looked after. They were great, reliable units if only a little hard to hand crank in January. Spanner size? Ours were an eclectic mix of AF, Whit, Metric, sometimes all on the same engine if older spares had been used. The good thing is AFAIK Lister in Dursley can supply most parts.

Ah right. Useful but not what I wanted to hear :nonchalance: Sounds like a bag of sockets and spanners to me.
Even a micrometer and solder as the squish gap for the piston depends on what gasket he has managed to buy, the older 0.030" or the later 0.060".
These things are never simple.

It is not a Lister engine, but a Petter based on their small industrial unit commonly used in its day in dump trucks, pumping sets, generators, refrigeration plants on trucks etc. Originally air cooled - the "W" indicates watercooled version. Big weakness is lots of aluminium to reduce weight but does not like salt water which is used to cool it. Probably AF fastenings. Known as Mini Six (12 in 2 cylinder form) when marinised. Google will bring up lots of references.

BTW Knobbly nature means good holding when used as an anchor in mud!
