Hi i recently run out of fuel *embaressed* my boat is a lister stw3 diesel engine, Now he wont start, I have cleaned the tank, done the filters ,bled it but cant get any fuel up to the injectors,
My next job i was going to try using a compressor to blow out a possible blockage, But im just wondering whether inside the engine there could be another pump....?
I have changed the lift pump , people keep telling me it could be the fuel pump but cant seem to locate this ....Any advice is thanked in advance :-)

Cant wait to gt back to sea!!

Are you saying you cannot get any fuel out of the injector pipes, having slackened the unions off?

You have set the throttle to max I assume whilst cranking it over?

Otherwise, there must still be air in the injection pump - which is where the other end of the injector pipes are attached !

i took the rocker covers off , slackened off the normal thing that you do to find fuel, i havent set it to max but did put few revs on.....

I have never needed a compressor to bleed a fuel system. Is the engine higher than the fuel tank? If it is then there must be a lift fuel pump which you can operate by hand using the lever attached, however this will not get air or fuel out of the injector pipes, only up to the fuel pump, not from it.

You should first have fuel flowing freely out of the top of the fuel filter housing, once this is done, close the filter vent and then bleed the pumps (as above) until fuel flows. If pulling the lift pump lever doesn't seem to be doing anything then turn the engine over about 1 revolution to get the lift pump 'off the cam' and operable by hand and try again.

You can then spin the engine over on the battery with the injector pipes off under the rocker cover until fuel spits out of at least one of them then tighten pipes up. Next time engine will start for sure.

hi,
I have a lister gen set.
loosen banjo bolt at back of injector pump..is fuel getting to pump?

if yes loosen nuts on injectors and turn over engine....?

Have you connected lift pump wrong way around.

is there fuel in tank.

water can block fuel flow through filter....

good luck
