I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to get info/specs for my inboard! I’ve trawled the net to no avail, but I’m hopeful there are a few engine aficionados on the forum who can point me in the right direction?

It’s a rather rusty Lister SL19, water cooled, single cylinder diesel, off I suspect - 60s vintage. Also I would be interested in hearing of any recommended parts factors who cater for engineering relics such as this lump!

Just an idea.

I'm sure I have seen small Lister engines at traction engine rallies [God, what an exciting life I lead!]. There's probably a stationary engine association or suchlike that could perhaps help you. Try Googling under "Portable Stationary Engines", "Vintage farm Machinery" or "Anoraks".

There is a "Yahoo Groups" group who live breath and dream Lister Engines in all shapes and sizes!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If they don't know the answers, you may as well throw it away and go and live in hermits snow cave in Antartica. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Try any of these:

Hi, as Listers are used so widely on the canals you should try the Waterways mags ads sections. There are Lister specialists there who are amazing. I have the first ever SR3 in my historic narrowboat and I'd say if you've got a Lister, keep it, because they're bulletproof.

This bloke (or company 'cos there's more than one in the outfit) is ace, very helpful and pleasant. based in Uxbridge

However I don't recognise the engine type 'Frinstance my genny motor is an ST1, 600 cc 3,000 rpm single pot. Rattles like hell.

A small single cylinder water cooled Lister is very unusual, but then I don't know anything about the SL range. In any event the numeric after the model letters denotes the number of cylinders, so you may have misread the plate - or have something very special. A list of Lister marine engines can be seen here

Thanks for all the advice/contacts I’ve joined the Lister Yahoo group (not sure I speak their language just yet!) and defiantly want to keep it. Mainly because it’s so simple and the installation is so accessible!

It’s only putting out 4.25hp, but with her dirty great prop, what she lacks in Hp should be made up in torque. Well that’s my thinking any way?

Our SR3 at 21.5 HP, but with a 3-1 gearbox turns a 25x16 prop and propels a 70 ft 20 ton wooden ex-working boat with ease. It starts well and has polished up a treat. Hand start is handy too. It's ridiculously economical as well. Knocks Jap Crap into a cocked hat!

The plate reads as follows:

Lister Dursley England
No 3774 - SL19
H.P 4.25 R.P.M 1800
Incorporating United Screw Threads

These stats don’t seem to correspond to any off the engines on the MCA list or any other Lister stats I’ve seen? But I’ll keep on searching and maybe some of the Lister bods on the yahoo group will come up trumps!

Good luck with your search for info.

The original (40 years old) Petter PH2 diesel engine in my Hillyard is currently away for a complete re-build with a chap up on the canals, where these engines are also to be found still chugging away happily in canal boats. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just my very inexpert thoughts, the "united threads" makes me wonder if was for some US export project?

Could be completely wrong, but if you've not already tried ring Peter Thompson at Uxbridge; one of the younger generation (!) but knowledgeable. Also try Beta Marine - their ex-MD (now retired) was a Lister man, and someone on the current staff may have other contacts. After all they are 'near' Listers.

3774 = Engine Number SL1 = Engine Type 9 = 1959

Hope This Helps:)
