Anyone know of a simple (and easy to use) web-based interface to wicd or NetworkManager or do I have to write something myself?

I was knocking together a document describing how to use a raspberry pi for your boat networking and wifi needs and got a bit stuck with how to control the wireless connection to the outside world (assuming the average yachtie with an ipad isn't running an X server and doesn't want to ssh in to start wpa_supplicant by hand).

Think an RPI out of the box will not start the WLAN. Are you basing this off an image? If so logging in (console) to start it will be required.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing :-). I knocked together a rough and ready "howto" for a friend on turning a pi into an access point and nmea 0183 multiplexer. It's not "ready" (or spellchecked) yet but it's here:

Most people would then want to enhance this purely-internal wireless network by sticking their high powered usb wireless thingy into it to pick up an Internet signal (which is routed to/from wireless devices via the pi) but whereas you can pre-define your internal network settings, the average punter wants to be able to look at available (shore) access points, select them, enter passwords etc. Doing that via the command line or an X session is not appropriate for most people, hence the need for a web interface to control wireless. Haven't found anything appropriate. Last resort will be to write something, possibly plagiarising the dd-wrt web interface (which I haven't looked at yet). Note that I'm all happy with the routing (and/or bridging) aspects of this set-up, I'm just looking for a web interface to make this "accessible" to the average user.
