As my chart plotter gets older, I would like to connect my AIS system to my Raymarine 10 year old system. I have the RL70CRC colour plotter with radar, Raystar 120 seatalk GPS, 6001 Autopilot head on a SPX10 course computer (3 years old). I also have a smart heading sensor. Both the SPX10 and the smart heading sensor have NMEA inputs.
The AIS system is a Vista laptop connected to an AdvanSea RX100 and a Garmin GPS60 handheld, both using USB inputs. We have it on the chart table and find the AIS excellent for the shipping lanes. Can any of you experts please advise which connections to make from where to which NMEA input and if anything else is required to follow a course or stear to a track, if the RL70 goes down. I have a spare USB input?output on the computer. I am not familiar with ini files so step by step instructions would help there. Also will there be a conflict with the two different GPS systems being connected at the same time. The Raystar will have to be replaced soon as its battery has died and cannot be replaced. Any help would be appreciated.
